ON THE SHUTTLE

PAN THROUGH SHUTTLE, SEE LAY OUT AND PASSENGERS, MILITARY. ONE OF THE MILITARY GUYS LOOKS BACK AT GEORGY AS HAVING HER THERE IS STRANGE. TIM FLOATS BY WITH SERGEI AND THEY GO INTO THE COCKPIT.

The goats find themselves in gravity again.

TIM:
(excited)
Now we are on our way!

We follow the craft behind in the "locomotive" view as it passes over the Earth with increasing speed, and the Moon rises into view. The engine stops.

GEORGIANA:
Woo!
JOSH:
Feeling the butteflies?

We end with a shot of the spacecraft rising up towards the camera with the shrinking Earth in the background.

NCIS SB012 Trans-Lunar Injection

Direction

We hear the comm traffic between PILOT and the CAPCOM on station as they prepare for undocking. The docking cone is put on, and the LTS undergoes its undock procedure. This is more complicated, because unlike the Soyuz, the LTS is a massive ship, and so it has to be stabilized to prevent undue stress on the docking ring.

The ship is actually held in a docking cradle, consisting of three closing gantries which roll along a captive rail on the LTS docking truss on the station. Thus, the undock consists first of the actual release from the hatch, followed by a gradual pullback of the cradle to set the ship moving slowly away from the station. As the ship reaches an undock speed of a few centimeters per second and the aft end of the shuttle clears the docking truss, the cradle arms release one-by-one and decelerate to a stop at the end of the rail. This is visible through the cockpit windows on the Artemis, which face "upwards" into the truss.

The LTS stack pulls away from the station, and then passes under it into an orbit which takes it a little lower from the station, where it pulls away. Then, as the spacecraft is passing low over the Earth, the engine fires for Trans-Lunar Injection (TLI), and the craft accelerates. We see the interior as the light-weight fabric couchess support the passengers (the acceleration is around one gee).

Sound

MUSIC: "TLI" excerpt of "Bellatrix" by "J.T. Bruce" from "Universica"

This track is By-NC-ND, and so we will have to negotiate to use it. I have no alternative in mind, and this track works really well with this scene, so I really hope this one works out.

Loud music track dominates, but we do have sound from the engines, voices on the shuttle, etc.

There is some radio chatter sound over the beginning of the track especially, during the undocking sequence. Some character dialog during the boost part.
